Thames Water must ‘spare no effort’ in reopening Malden Rushett

Chessington’s MP, Edward Davey, has sent an urgent fax to the Chief Executive of Thames Water, Bill Alexander, to ensure that ‘no effort is spared’ to reopen the junction at Malden Rushett after Tuesday’s burst water main.

In his letter, Mr Davey asks the Chief Executive to ensure water pressures are maintained to local properties following a major burst water main on the A243 at Malden Rushett. Furthermore, residents in surrounding roads have expressed their dismay at the build up of traffic and are concerned at the additional hazards this poses to school children. Edward Davey has also asked Thames Water to clarify if local businesses and residents will become eligible for compensation payments. Telephone lines are also reported to be down.

Commenting on the situation, Edward Davey said,

"It has been very difficult for residents who have lost their water supply or had their phones cut off."

"I have therefore sent an urgent fax to the Chief Executive of Thames Water to make sure that ‘no effort is spared’ in fixing this problem.

"The situation is intolerable for local residents and businesses and this matter must be resolved as a matter of urgency."

Burst Water Main on the A243 at the Malden Rushett Junction

I am writing on behalf of local residents and businesses that have been adversely effected by the above incident.

I am sure you will be aware that this has very serious consequences for a large section of my constituency and I urge you to ensure that no effort is spared in fixing this main as soon as humanly possible. Many residents have reported problems with water pressure levels and I would like you assurance that these pressures will be maintained.

Local businesses have also reported a steep down turn in passing trade as widespread diversions have been introduced.

Given the large scale inconvenience caused to many in the area, I would appreciate it if you would clarify if local businesses and residents will become eligible for compensation payments.

I look forward to hearing from you as a matter or some urgency.

Yours sincerely

Edward Davey MP
