Mayor
elections could be cancelled
Liberal Democrat London
Spokesman, Edward Davey MP, has tabled a written question
to Home Secretary Jack Straw today, to seek confirmation
that Labour is acting against all past conventions on
election law, by failing to get cross party agreement for
the Mayor and Assembly elections.
Following the Governments announcement yesterday
that there would be no freepost for London, Mr Davey said
that the Government was putting the elections themselves
in jeopardy.
Edward Davey said:
"Liberal
Democrats and Conservatives in the Lords will unite to
defeat these undemocratic regulations."
"Labour will be forced either to accept our
amendments or see the mayoral elections collapse in
chaos. Perhaps that is what Labour wants."
