Tribute to the Queen Mother
2.04.02
Edward Davey, MP for Kingston and Surbiton, today paid tribute to the Queen Mother:
"People will miss the Queen Mother because she engaged so well with real people. Whether or not you were lucky enough to meet her, the TV pictures unfailingly showed her warmth and love for life.
"My own personal recollections are second hand, through my grandmother's eyes. Nanna lived near Watford during the war, looking after a succession of evacuees from the East End, and today she can still recapture those years with her stories. It's through countless such memories that the genuine affection Queen Elizabeth won during the Blitz has been passed down the generations.
"For my own generation, the Clarence House birthday waves may be more memorable. Yet, whichever is your clearest image - the courageous wartime leadership or the smiling reassuring presence - it's beyond dispute that the Queen Mum brought happiness to millions. It's right we remember her properly."
