Liberal Democrats celebrate major crime prevention campaign success

News that Tolworth Broadway is to get CCTV after years of campaigning has been warmly welcomed by Kingston and Surbiton's Liberal Democrat MP, Edward Davey.

Kingston Council's Liberal Democrat Administration has been seeking external funding for CCTV for Tolworth Broadway, and has recently won £135,000 from Transport for London. With extra contributions from local neighbourhood budgets, a project including CCTV cameras and improved street lighting is now to go ahead.

This success follows over four years of campaigning by local Liberal Democrats, including MP, Edward Davey.

Commenting, Edward Davey said:

"This is excellent news for Tolworth and excellent news for the fight against crime.

"We have been trying hard for years to get funding for CCTV for Tolworth Broadway, but under the last Conservative Council we seemed to get nowhere. I'm delighted for Tolworth Liberal Democrat councillors like Vicki Harris, Rolson Davies and Rob Lee who deserve this victory."

Cllr Rolson Davies said:

"This is what residents and traders have been wanting for years. This will really improve safety and security in Tolworth."

Cllr Rob Lee said:

"We have only managed this through active partnership, with the Council working with the traders and Transport for London."

Cllr Vicki Harris commented:

"This will boost our Gold Zone initiative on the Broadway. Already things have improved, but this is a major step forward."
