"Save money and save the environment" urges Davey

Kingston and Surbiton's MP, Edward Davey, is urging constituents to cut their motoring tax bills by switching to gas-powered fuel as soon as they can. Edward Davey's advice comes after his own recent experience, when he replaced his old diesel-powered Rover 218 with a Ford Focus, powered by liquid petroleum gas.

Edward made the change as gas-powered cars are far less polluting, but was amazed to see his fuel bills plummet.

Commenting, Edward Davey said:

"Save money and save the environment is a great message, and my experience shows it really works.

"My old Rover was on its last legs, so I had to replace it. Yet I hadn't realised I could get a second hand car, already converted to eco-friendly autogas, that saves me hundreds of pounds.

"With a litre of LPG costing around half the price of petrol or diesel, with a total exemption from the congestion charge and with a reduced rate for the car tax disc, people can save a lot of money if they opt for a LPG conversion.

"I worried about finding stations to fill up at, but now there are over 1,400 nationwide, with more opening every week. As most LPG cars also retain a tank for unleaded petrol and are in fact bi-fuel cars, there's no danger of running dry anyway. For anyone who is interested, there is plenty of advice available, especially on the web.

"My used LPG Ford Focus may not be flash, but it's convinced me cheaper, greener motoring is now available to most car owners."
