Local MP to attend Korean Festival
13.08.04
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, will be attending the opening ceremony of the 2004 Korean Festival at the Fairfield Recreation Ground in Kingston on Saturday 14th August.
The annual spectacle organised by the Korean Residents' Association will be opened by the Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Ed Naylor, at 10.30 am with Edward Davey MP in attendance. The day will continue until 6 pm with displays of traditional Korean music, dance, food and martial arts.
Commenting, Edward Davey said,
"This is an excellent opportunity to come and see the variety and diversity that's Kingston.
"Kingston is a vibrant, multicultural community and this festival will celebrate that in what promises to be a spectacular day out. As I said in my welcome message in the event guide, this is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to sample the richness of Korean culture here in the heart of Kingston.
"I'm still working on my Korean language skills. I'm afraid the only time I've been to Korea was before I became a MP, when I went to Seoul on business. Yet I've tried the excellent Korean food, and I'm told there'll be plenty to sample this weekend, so it should be fun for everyone. "
