Kingston University has won a £3 million award to develop new teaching expertise for the environment. Local MP, Edward Davey, believes the award could help bring professions together for a better understanding of environmental sustainability in disciplines from housing to planning, and has tabled a Commons motion to congratulate the University and their new “Centre for Sustainable Communities Achieved Through Integrated Professional Education”.

The University’s School of Surveying received the award last month from the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Edward Davey MP tabled the motion, EDM 704, on Wednesday, 9th February. It has thus far been signed by 5 other Liberal Democrat and Labour MPs.

Commenting, Edward Davey said:

“We need to think more deeply about the environment in all aspects of building and planning, and this type of initiative will help.

“This award acknowledges that Kingston University is a leading educational institution. It provides students with an excellent professional education and provides links with the wider community.

“It is heartening to see Kingston University championing the cause of sustainability in every aspect of modern life. C-SCAIPE should help to instill within graduates the value and importance of sustainability.

“I congratulate Kingston University on their award, and look forward to the opening of C-SCAIPE.”
