"Ministers sports clubs favoured for lottery funding" - Edward Davey
Local MP launches sports club survey as Kingston misses out on lottery cash
Shocking new figures compiled by local Lib Dem MP, Edward Davey, show that the amount of money being award to sports projects in Kingston & Surbiton is way below the London average. Furthermore, the figures also show that Ministers constituencies are getting a disproportionately higher amount than local clubs.
In response to these figures, Edward Davey has launched a Sports Club Survey which has been sent to clubs in the Borough in order to identify their current financial strength. It also aims to find out if they support proposals backed by Mr Davey for sports clubs to be given tax advantages through eligibility for charitable status. These proposals are being considered by the Charity Commission who are set to issue a consultation on the issue shortly.
Commenting on the latest figures, Edward Davey said,
"Once again, Kingston is missing out on lottery cash. Weve already seen the Boroughs local charities applications being largely ignored and now our sports clubs seem to be getting much the same treatment.
"To help me press the case for local sports clubs, I have sent them a survey asking them how they are managing without lottery funds.
"It comes as no surprise to see Ministers constituencies getting more money than local clubs. However, with this local survey, I will be able to show the Charity Commission and the Government why Kingston & Surbitons sports clubs deserve their support as well."
If any club has not received a survey they can request a copy by contacting Edward Daveys constituency office on 020 8288 0161.
