"The K2 & K4 will not now be axed." - Davey

At his meeting last Friday with the External Liaison Manager for London Transport Buses, Edward Davey MP, won a commitment from them to ‘drop’ the option to merge part of the K4 bus service with the K2.

The meeting was arranged by Mr Davey after local people wrote to him concerned that the proposed merger of the K2 and K4 would hit many pensioners hard, particularly in some parts of Chessington, Hook and Surbiton. However, Mr Davey has now helped secure a commitment from London Transport Buses that both routes would remain intact for the long term. Instead of cutting a section of the K4 route, they promised to focus their attention on improving the reliability of the K4 by possibly adding an additional bus to the route.

The External Liaison Manger also told Mr Davey about his plans to issue a totally new consultation to gain passengers views on how to improve links further between Chessington and Hook with Kingston Hospital. Two options will be tested. The first is to simply add another bus to the K4 route to improve reliability, whilst retaining the existing routes. The other proposal is to terminate the K4 in Kingston Town centre and instead extend the K2 to Kingston Hospital. It is anticipated that the new consultation will be officially launched by the end of the week.

Commenting on his meeting, Edward Davey said,

"I was delighted to win a firm commitment from London Buses to drop the option to amalgamate part of the K4 bus service with the K2."

"Many local people will be delighted to know that both of these services are now secure. The uncertainty surrounding their futures has been extremely worrying for passengers and residents alike."

"I am also pleased that London Buses are now to consult on a new plan to improve these bus links with Kingston Hospital."

"This could help local people, especially pensioners in parts of Chessington, Hook and Surbiton who rely on these buses. I urge residents and passengers to make their views known on these new plans."
