Station Re-zoning

Campaign to stop £400 hike in season tickets

Edward Davey at station

Research by the Borough's Liberal Democrat MPs, myself and Susan Kramer, has revealed a plan to raise the cost of local season tickets, buried in South West Trains' unpublished franchise agreement with the Government.

Thanks to the new zonal pricing scheme of Ken Livingstone and the Labour Government, stations like Surbiton and Kingston - both in zone 6, and only just outside zone 5 - stand to see rail fares rocket.

Already from January 2007, single and returns to Waterloo from the two stations have gone up by over 35%. When the zonal pricing applies to season tickets, from January 2010, we fear a repeat.

We are taking their campaign to South West Trains, the Department for Transport, Transport for London and the Office of Rail Regulation.

You can read all the details of the legal challenge that we are mounting.

You can also read all the background papers to this campaign.

Re-zone Kingston and Surbiton

I support the campaign of local Liberal Democrat MPs, Edward Davey and Susan Kramer, to re-zone Kingston and Surbiton stations from Zone 6 to Zone 5, to cut train fares and stop a rise of over £400 a year for annual rail tickets.
