Battle for Waterloo

Eurostar trains at Waterloo

We have won the Trains not Shops campaign, and the Eurostar platforms at Waterloo are going to be kept for domestic train services.

But there are more battles ahead.

Susan Kramer (MP for Richmond Park) and I believe that train services under the south west franchise should take priority over Kent and south east trains, and have the right to use the soon-to-be-vacated Eurostar platforms at Waterloo.

This is a huge opportunity to improve public transport, and all existing services to Waterloo.

South West London must have priority

Over many decades, south west London and the whole south west have missed out on major transport infrastructure investment, and we should now be given our fair share.

It would frankly be a scandal if Kent and south eastern services won priority for new capacity at Waterloo, given they will benefit from the huge Channel Tunnel Rail Link and the forthcoming Thameslink 2000 projects.

Trafalgar Day

Our battle for Waterloo began on Trafalgar Day - and we intend to win. If we achieve a victory, it would provide a historic opportunity for local train services to improve. Less congestion outside Waterloo, improved punctuality and more trains.

This campaign must be won in the next five months, so we can ensure the transport investment happens to improve local train services over the following five years.

Battle for Waterloo

I support your 'Battle for Waterloo' campaign. I agree that the platforms vacated by Eurostar in 2007 should be used by trains servicing South West London to benefit local commuters.
