Red Ken's Train Fares are Unfair!

In the early 1980s, a certain Ken Livingstone, then Leader of the Greater London Council, fought a bitter and expensive campaign for lower bus and tube fares. He called it “Fares Fair”.

Now London’s Mayor, the same Ken Livingstone, has used new powers to reorganise London’s train fares, producing massive rises for many commuters in Kingston and Surbiton. Some fares are up by a whopping 36% - with a peak return from Surbiton to Waterloo rising from £6.80 to £9.20.

I’ve dubbed this the “Fares Unfair” policy of the Mayor - and launched a new campaign against it. If you’d like to sign my petition against these outrageous fare rises, please visit my website and sign my online petition at www.edwarddavey.co.uk – or write to me at 21, Berrylands Road, Surbiton KT5 8QX.

I’ve raised my concerns for several months with a motion in Parliament and contacting the Mayor. I argue these rises will hit hardest those on modest incomes, especially part-time workers, for whom a travel card doesn’t make sense. After all, I thought this Mayor was supposed to care about the less well-off?

However, not only does Ken Livingstone rarely visit our Borough, preferring trips to Cuba instead, he’s also not yet been bothered to explain why Kingston people should face his massive train fare hikes.

It’s time we sent a strong message of protest to London’s Mayor – so I hope you’ll join me in this campaign.
