Regeneration of Kingston Town: it's in your hands!
Ever
wanted to affect the future look and feel of Kingston town centre?
Ever wanted to improve the
parking, see more pedestrian-only areas and see more open public spaces?
Want to see the regeneration
of the area around Ashdown Road or around Kingston train station?
Now there’s a chance. This
month a new consultation has been launched – called K+20, with an “Area
Action Plan”. You can see this at libraries or on the web, at www.kingston.gov.uk/kplus20
The consultation documents set out a massive amount of ideas for the
future of Kingston – from improvements to the riverside to removing
buses totally from Eden Street to a new bus station.
Act fast. You have till 6th
July to make your views known.
Especially make your concerns known.
Personally, I’m concerned that
the council uses this chance to improve the environmental
sustainability of our town.
I think the council should, for example, ensure that new combined heat
and power plants are built into the basements of new buildings or car
parks – I’ve seen one in Woking, and it’s helped cut the bills of the
council by using energy more efficiently.
If we can improve cycling
facilities, enhance Kingston train station and maybe look at a park and
ride facility, we could reduce congestion and reduce vehicle pollution.
While a lot of local people
have already been working hard for over 4 years on these ideas, we’re
now at a critical point. The more people who get involved now, the
better our town will be in the future.
