Edward Davey meets Kingston young people at Westminster

Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, today met with a group of young people from Kingston in Westminster. Given a tour of the Palace of Westminster, the young people; who came from a variety of backgrounds' some being involved in the youth service, others from looked after homes, settled down into an hour-long discussion with Edward Davey MP on issues they felt affected them in Kingston and Surbiton.

Issues raised included the level of social support in Kingston; the best ways to keep young people informed of political developments and rehabiliting young offenders.

Edward Davey MP commented;

"It is always good to remain in contact with constituents, these young constituents raised many valuable issues on an impressively wide range of topics. They gave me some real food for thought. I regularly keep in touch with students at schools but also hope to use our newly elected member of the UK Youth Parliament, and the constituency's youth forums to keep plugged in, to the constituents of tomorrow as well as the constituents of today."

One of the young people who came to see Edward Davey MP, Victoria Harper said

"I really enjoyed it, I found the visit good fun. I really like Edward's views on how young people should get more involved in parliament and democracy."

The trip was organised by Katie Ronald as a supplement to last week's local Democracy Week.

Katie said

"I felt Edward really listened to the young people, and they seemed to really feel listened to. It showed them that there was another route for young people to get involved in making Kingston a better place for them to live."
