Local MP Joins the Giving Nation

24.06.04

As part of Giving Nation's "G-Week" celebration from 26th June-2nd July, Liberal Democrat MP Edward Davey will be visiting Holy Cross School in New Malden and speaking at Chessington Community College.

"G-Week" is an annual initiative to celebrate the charity and community work of secondary school students throughout Britain. As part of this year's drive, Edward Davey MP will be visiting schools in his constituency to congratulate them on their 'giving' work and to hold a general meeting with the headteacher to keep up to date with local schools.

Commenting on his prospective school visits, Edward Davey MP said,

"Giving Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all the vital work students do for their communities throughout the year.

"400 secondary schools took part last year when G-Week was first launched, and, judging by the very positive response from schools in my constituency of Kingston and Surbiton, this year there will be an even more positive response.

"I am visiting Holy Cross School on Monday 26th June and Chessington Community College on Friday 2nd July to show my support for what I consider to be a very important programme. It will not only increase students' awareness of voluntary and community work, but it will highlight the significant charity work that has already been done by schools.

"Although it is a national scheme, Giving Week is about the local community; it is about fostering the very positive relationship between schools and their environs. I am behind this concept all the way."
