NHS Guide Dog Campaign Heats Up
2.07.04
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, last week made good his promise to spearhead the Guide Dog for the Blind Association's campaign in the Commons through tabling an Early Day Motion.
Edward Davey, who hosted the event launching The Access for All: NHS Services Campaign for Guide Dogs for the Blind earlier this month, hopes that the EDM will help to raise awareness over what he sees as a straightforward problem.
Commenting, Edward Davey MP said
"This is an issue concerning fairness and equality. Visually impaired patients should not be denied full access to proper health care, and it is high time the Government recognized this.
"It is imperative that those faced with visual impairments are provided with an NHS staff that understands their needs and are guaranteed services and information that are fully accessible to them.
"By tabling this EDM, I hope to make other MPs aware of the major problems within the NHS system in regards to the treatment of the visually impaired and the significant improvements that can be made. In addition, I hope that the visually impaired in Kingston, Surbiton and throughout the country will one day be able to rest assured knowing that they have gained full access to our healthcare system."
