Edward Davey's 7th Annual Report Hits Kingston Door Mats

13.08.04

As the great British summer rolls on the Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Edward Davey, has published his 7th annual report, outlining his work over the last 12 months. Copies are being distributed free to every household across the constituency. Edward Davey and the Liberal Democrats paid for the annual report, so this is being provided free of charge to the taxpayer.

Edward Davey's 7th report can be read at his award winning website (click here) where most of his previous reports are also stored. Commenting Edward Davey said:

"I believe it's vital to keep in touch with local constituents.

"Too often, politicians come across as distant and out of touch. I hope by providing an annual report every year, people can at least see what I've been up to, and then make their own judgement.

"I strongly believe we need to rebuild trust in politics. That can only be done by listening to local people and giving them a chance to feedback. Over this summer, I've been knocking on doors throughout the constituency to hear what local people are thinking. From over zealous parking attendants to the war in Iraq, it's vital to the health of democracy that people's voices are heard.

"I hope people find my 7th annual report interesting.

"In Parliament last year, I was kept busy campaigning against tuition fees and spearheading a campaign to scrap council tax. I worked on a large variety of committees, looking at new laws on housing and local government. Naturally, the debate over Iraq overshadowed our discussions.

"Yet it's the local constituency work that remains my priority.

"My campaign to get more police on the streets was at last successful with extra bobbies on the beat. Progress was made in improving the performance of Kingston Hospital, especially in the new Accident and Emergency Unit. Education investment in the constituency also increased with schools like Malden Manor Primary and Richard Challoner benefiting from major new building projects.

"There is much more to do, especially on issues like affordable housing, the train service and post offices. Yet I believe we are beginning to see progress. As a local resident myself, I'm determined to work hard for our local community.
