9.4.2000 MPs Railtrack meeting brings about station repairs across the Borough Davey presses for wildlife zone to be introduced in Surbiton Edward Davey has welcomed Railtracks positive response to a meeting he held with area managers at which he raised constituents concerns. As a result of the meeting, Railtrack have agreed to carry out re medial works to counteract the problems identified at many stations across the Borough. Commenting on recent reports that improvements are already being introduced, Edward Davey said, "Often with these big companies, individual concerns can get lost in a sea of bureaucracy. This is why after being told about a number of problems relating to maintenance problems at local train stations, such as uneven platforms and leaking roofs, I thought it would be useful to raise them all at once with the managers that could get something done." "To their credit, Railtrack have been as good as their word and I have already had reports from constituents that many of these works are underway. I am sure it will make a real difference to residents who travel by train." Edward added, "Given that they have positively responded to our concerns, I hope they will be equally receptive to my idea of introducing a protected wildlife zone near to one of the Boroughs stations." "With the increasing number of developments in the Borough, wildlife is being displaced from traditional habitats in ever greater numbers. They need to have somewhere to go and Railtrack can play a strategic role, as much of the Boroughs remaining land still suitable for sustaining wildlife is owned by them." Brendan Maher ARICS April 2000 Thank you for sending me an update in response to the issues I raised at our recent meeting. The information you supplied was very helpful and addressed many of the concerns local constituents had raised with me. However, I have previously mentioned to a number of your colleagues about the possibility of rolling out your "wildlife protection zones" programme to include a station in my constituency. I had identified Berrylands as one possible site, although I have yet to have a response as to whether this will be possible. Consequently, I would appreciate it if you would provide me with an indication of whether my proposal has been accepted. I look forward to speaking to you in the very near future. Yours sincerely
Edward Davey MP
