Local MP to be key speaker at Annual Party Conference
17.09.04
Edward Davey MP is preparing for the Liberal Democrat's Annual Conference in Bournemouth this September, where he will be speaking at several events and meeting the party faithful. This year he will also be giving a speech in a spokesperson's slot on Wednesday 22nd at 12.30 p.m.
Every year Liberal Democrats from all over the country gather to debate and hear their leader speak. This year the Liberal Democrats have their recent win in Leicester South to celebrate, while planning for the weeks ahead as they prepare to fight another by-election in Peter Mandelson's former seat of Hartlepool.
Commenting, Edward Davey MP said:
"With the party on an upward trend after two major by-election victories, Conference should prove an important opportunity to reflect on our gains and steel ourselves for the forthcoming General Election.
"It will provide a forum for debate and discussion about key issues affecting the Party, including many issues that will directly affect Kingston and Surbiton. From my point of view, in my capacity as Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, I will be going to discuss such key concerns as the provision of affordable housing and the implications of axing the unfair council tax and replacing it with a tax based on ability to pay.
"Party conference is where Party policy is discussed and defined. I will be looking to fly the flag for local issues and contribute to the discussion as much as possible."
