15.10.04

Local Liberal Democrat MP Edward Davey welcomed the inauguration of the Royal Kingston District Scouts in New Malden last Thursday.

The new Royal Kingston District Group was formed from the merging of Surbiton Scout District and Kingston and Malden Scout District. Edward Davey gave a brief speech at the inaugural meeting, which was held in the New Malden Methodist Church on 14th October and was also attended by the Mayor, Ed Naylor.

Commenting on the merger, Edward Davey said:

"The introduction of the Royal Kingston District Group is great news for Kingston, and it was great to see so many people at the inaugural meeting, which shows the importance of the Scouts to our local area.

"As a Scout myself - once a Scout, always a Scout - I firmly believe the Scout movement plays an invaluable role - for young people and the whole community.

"I am sure that the merger will help to raise awareness of the great work that the Scouts perform and lead to more members and increased activity within the local community. I am delighted to be able to lend my continued support."
