Local MP on Any Questions?

12.11.04

Local Liberal Democrat MP Edward Davey appeared on the BBC Radio Four program 'Any Questions?' last Friday to answer questions on a panel that included the Rt. Hon. David Blunkett MP, the Home Secretary.

Introduced by the presenter, David Dimbleby, as a 'young turk' who is 'often spoken of as a future leader of his party', Edward Davey fielded questions on everything from Iraq to Morris dancing on the long-running radio politics show that was recorded in front of a live audience in Matlock, Derbyshire. The other panel members were George Osborne MP, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and Colleen Graffy, US lawyer and Republican.

Commenting, Edward Davey MP said,

'I always enjoy appearing on Any Questions? as it gives me an opportunity to discuss concerns raised by the public that are often similar to those brought up by my constituents in their letters and emails, or at my advice sessions.

'On Friday I answered questions on Iraq, the police force carrying firearms and the Middle East - all issues on which I frequently receive correspondence.

'However, I also had to answer a question on reggae dancing versus Morris dancing, a topic which doesn't feature so regularly in my postbag!'
