Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, is joining together with his Commons and constituency staff to raise money for World Vision by taking part in the sponsored 24-hour Fast on 18th-20th February.
Edward Davey and his four staff will only be allowed fluids for a twenty-four-hour period in mid-February in a bid to raise funds for World Vision, one of the world's leading relief and development agencies currently helping over 85 million people in nearly 100 countries in their struggle against poverty, hunger and injustice. This year the proceeds from the famine will go to providing care, comfort and education for the orphans of HIV/AIDS.
Commenting, Edward Davey MP said,
“It is great to be able to take part in such a worthwhile event. The money raised will be going towards improving the lives of thousands of orphans of HIV/AIDS.
“It is going to be quite a challenge, especially as I will be rushing around as normal keeping my usual appointments. The World Vision advice is to keep drinking plenty of water and to get an early night on the eve of the fast, although this is easier said than done!
“Taking part in the World Vision Fast will give us only a tiny insight into the appalling conditions some people live in as we know it will end and is voluntary. Yet if it raises awareness, it can serve a purpose.
“I’m delighted that my staff are supporting me in this and together we should be able to raise a decent sum for World Vision and help make a real difference.”
