MP flips out for Rehab UK
9.2.05
Westminster was a hive of activity this morning as Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, took part in the eighth annual Parliamentary Pancake Race to promote the work of the brain injury charity Rehab UK.
A large group of MPs and Lords, armed with pancakes and frying pans, had to complete one circuit and three flips of their pancakes in a relay race on the College Green pancake-race track.
Edward Davey, who was in a team with Liberal Democrats Vince Cable, MP for Twickenham; Bob Russell, MP for Colchester; and Baroness Ros Scott of Needham Market, commented,
"The race was great fun and certainly a very novel idea. There was a lot of good-humoured banter between the parties. It was good to see everyone pulling together to help such a worthy cause.
"The charity provides rehabilitation, training and community care programmes for people with brain injuries. Some 100,000 people each year are affected by brain injury, most of them still in their early working years.
"This annual event helps to raise Rehab UK’s profile in a light-hearted and fun way. I hope it will persuade people to dig deep and support the charity and all its excellent work.
"Our team were able to ‘batter’ the opposition and take second place, having got off to a ‘frying’ start. Everyone had a ‘flipping’ marvellous time!"
