Local MP calls for nominations for STAR Awards

28.2.05

Local Liberal Democrat MP Edward Davey today called upon local people to make nominations for the STAR Awards. These are awarded by the Department for Education and Skills’ and recognise the work of unsung heroes in the learning and skills sector.

The learning and skills sector includes adult and community learning, further education colleges, prison education, and work-based learning. It supports the learning and development of some six million people aged 16 and over annually.

Commenting, Edward Davey said:

"The STAR awards are a way to recognise those who have an exceptional commitment to their work in the learning and skills sector. There are many excellent tutors, trainers and managers who deserve wider recognition for their work.

"The Department for Education and Skills is aiming to receive 3,000 nominations for the awards this year, and I know that my constituents can help reach that goal.

"If you know anyone in the learning and skills sector who works hard to make a difference in the lives of learners and colleagues, nominate them for a STAR Award."
