As part of the celebrations for Fairtrade Fortnight, Edward Davey MP is scheduled to visit Fairtrade Kingston’s event in Kingston Marketplace this Saturday, 12th March, at 1 pm. Edward Davey MP will use the opportunity to sample various Fairtrade products and encourage others to buy Fairtrade items.

The Fortnight, which runs from March 1st-13th, also saw Edward Davey MP meet Anna Awere, a cocoa farmer from Ghana who is touring the UK as a part of Fairtrade Fortnight. She told Edward how Fairtrade benefits her local community and farming cooperative.

Edward Davey MP commented,

"Fairtrade means that farmers and producers in the developing world can earn a sustainable livelihood. Fairtrade can reconcile the benefits of global free trade with a concern for human rights.

"Fairtrade Kingston do wonderful work in promoting Fairtrade products. The recent announcement that Kingston has been granted Fairtrade Borough status is a fitting reward for all their hard work.

"It was great to meet Anna and discuss how supporting Fairtrade locally has such a positive affect worldwide. The chocolate she gave me was made with cocoa from her co-operative, Kuapa Kokoo, and was absolutely delicious!

"Anna is here to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight and to support London’s bid to become a Fairtrade City. Kingston has led the way with its newfound Fairtrade Borough status; I look forward to other London boroughs following suit!"
