"Show racism the red card", says Edward Davey MP

With several local and national organisations making important progress in the effort to eradicate racism from football, Edward Davey last week put forward a parliamentary motion to congratulate all those involved.

The Report Racism initiative aims to build on the success that the Kick it Out and Show Racism the Red Card campaigns have had in the professional game. In partnership with the Metropolitan Police, a freephone line has been set up for people to report racist incidents at football grounds.

“The message is simple: racial abuse is unacceptable, illegal and will be acted upon.”

Commenting, Edward Davey MP said,

“There is no place for racism in any walk of life, but football has been one area where this blight on our society has been particularly prevalent. I warmly welcome the initiative taken by Kingston police and AFC Wimbledon to ensure that such ill-considered, hurtful, and abhorrent behaviour is banished from our sports grounds – and indeed, our communities – for good.”
