MP In Poster Campaign To Combat Hospital Infections
1.06.05
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, is to be featured on one of the posters for Kingston Hospital's 'Clean Your Hands' campaign, to encourage people to wash their hands to prevent the spread of hospital infections.
Underneath a large photograph of Edward Davey washing his hands runs the caption, 'I am making it my priority to observe excellent hand hygiene, by cleaning my hands before and after every contact with patients. And if I can do it, you can too.'
Commenting, Edward Davey said,
"I'm pleased that Kingston Hospital is working hard to eliminate hospital-acquired infections. They are now leading the way with this campaign and setting a good example to other hospitals.
"I wasn't immediately keen when the Hospital asked me to star in a poster campaign, but the issue is so important. We have to tackle the cleanliness problem in all our hospitals, and that means involving everyone - from staff to patients and visitors.
"I'm pushing with colleagues at Westminster for a sustained programme across the whole NHS.
"We need more isolation units, we need to reduce the high levels of bed occupancy and we need to guarantee that the basics of hygiene and cleaning are given a much higher priority.
"We must avoid the scare stories, whilst ensuring that the problem is properly dealt with."
