15.7.05
Edward Davey MP for Kingston and Surbiton constituency is taking part in the King Athelstan Primary School multicultural day celebrations on 15th July 2005. Each class throughout the school from Nursery to Year 6 will be studying a specific country that is represented in the school, focusing on literature, history, geography, art and games. On the day of celebrations the children will show off what they have learnt to an invited audience.
The school has a uniquely rich and diverse population, and children from some thirty - two countries work and play together harmoniously.
Commenting on the day of celebration, Edward Davey MP said:
"I am delighted to be taking part in these celebrations. It is important for schools like King Athelstan to be encouraging children within the constituency to accept and learn about other cultures.
"We need to learn to live together and create a sense of homogeneity especially in the light of the recent terrorist attack and this school is encouraging children in the right way.
"It is important that children learn from an early age that it is important to respect one another.
