Kingston Schools Selected for Special
Building Work Funding
13.10.05
In an announcement today, the Government has revealed that three
Kingston schools have succeeded in securing funding for much-needed
school building projects.
These schools are Beverley School, Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery
School and St Mary’s Church of England Aided Primary School. They have
been selected to receive a proportion of the money that the Government
is making available as part of the 2006-9 Targeted Capital Fund (TCF).
Commenting, MP for Kingston and Surbiton Edward Davey said,
“This is fantastic
news. I am absolutely delighted.
“These are schools
we’ve been campaigning for for several years. I just wish it could have
happened before! Congratulations are due to the schools and Kingston
Council for the hard work they put in to win this investment.
“With this money
Beverley, Grand Avenue and St Mary’s will be able to provide premises
that are modern, clean and fit for a 21st century education.
“Winning over
£12 million for local schools is great news, but we now have to
work out how the local council and the diocese will be able to afford
their contributions. I’m sure everyone involved will see the vital
importance of this investment and make it a priority.
“This grant is
testament to the hard work that these schools have put in to their
bids, and just how deserving their cases are. Congratulations to all
three – I can’t wait to see the results!”
