Trade Justice Lobby

15.11.05

Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, met constituents earlier this week at a mass lobby for Trade Justice.

People from across the Borough and across the UK came up to Parliament on Wednesday to lobby MPs on the need to make trade fair in order to make poverty history.

Edward Davey said,

“It is wonderful that so many people have made the journey up to London from around the country. It underlines the depth of feeling about this issue and will help keep trade justice high up on the Government’s agenda.

“Local campaigners across Kingston have been particularly active and I pay credit to them.

“Making poverty history isn’t just about handing out aid and debt relief. It is also about setting out fair trade rules which open markets but protects less economically developed countries from exploitation.

“By bringing this to the Government’s attention today, these people are helping build the international coalition for Trade Justice.

“It is now up to the Government to build on these to make poverty history.”
