Edward Davey gives ‘Go’ a go!

15.12.05

Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, showed he was ‘game’ to try something new when he visited New Malden’s Baduk Hall.

‘Baduk’, or ‘Go’ as it is known in UK, is an ancient strategy game that is well known to the Korean community of New Malden, and has long been recognised as a useful educational tool. Edward Davey went along to meet the players and try the game for himself.

Edward Davey said:

“I've been impressed by the positive education benefits that this very ancient game, Go, provides.

“I think it's vital that we use a wide variety of techniques to enthuse our youngsters to learn, and a game that's simple to start like Go fits the bill well.

“Go is called Baduk in Korean and so there's a real local interest for people in New Malden.

“It's good news that a few Koreans in New Malden have even set up a local club, with a new Baduk Hall that's open to all. Anyone interested can find the details on the website of the British Go Association.”
