Local MP backs
campaign to get Kingston young people interested in politics
02.01.06
Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for
Kingston and Surbiton, has recently given support to the Hansard
Society’s ‘MPs in Schools’ Campaign, which aims to build links between
young people and their representatives in Parliament.
Earlier this week, Edward Davey MP sent out
the Vote Y: MPs and Schools Packs to all schools within his Kingston
and Surbiton constituency. The pack, which has been created by the
Hansard Society, the Citizenship Foundation, the Children’s Express and
the Parliamentary Education Unit, intends to prepare students for a
visit from their MP and to get young people thinking about the
democratic process and real issues that matter to them.
Edward Davey said,
“I think its really important that young people know about politics and
how the country is run.
“From my visits to local schools I know youngsters are curious to ask
question and find out more. This pack will really help.
“This new education pack has been developed by independent experts and
gives young people a real chance to meet and chat to all politicians,
including their local MP.”
