Straight Talking MP Boosts Local Charity

06.04.06

Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, praised Straight Talking at an event in the House of Commons celebrating the local charity’s achievements.

The charity employs teenage parents to run courses in Kingston schools in order to raise young people’s awareness of the problems and realities of teenage parenthood. The event, which was hosted by Edward Davey, was to celebrate independent research into Straight Talking’s performance and methods.

Edward Davey said,

“Straight Talking do an excellent job educating teenagers in Kingston. They have reached over 4,500 pupils so far and the number is growing.

“Their approach is unique, and hugely effective. They have 50 young parents working for them now.

“This report looked into whether Straight Talking achieved its two main aims: raising young people’s awareness of the problems associated with teenage parenthood, to reduce the rate of  teenage pregnancy; and helping the young parents they employ to reach their potential.

“It’s clear that they have been hugely successful in working towards both those important aims. I am sure they will go from strength to strength and look forward to supporting them in the future.”
