Davey Joins Number 10 Post Office Rally

Edward Davey MP spoke at the Rally organised by the National Federation of SubPostmasters (NFSP) which presented a petition to Number 10 Downing Street on 18th October.

Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, addressed the many SubPostmasters gathered.  The National Federation of SubPostmasters (NFSP) is the only body representing the interests of 14,500 sub postmasters throughout the UK.  Post Offices are the hub of the community, as 28 million customers make 45 million visits to post offices every week, yet the survival of the Post Office is under threat due to Government Plans.

Edward Davey, speaking at the rally said, “The government cannot comprehend that the Post Office provides vital services to the community beyond a book of 1st Class stamps.  Post Offices are the only accessible amenity for many elderly and vulnerable people in our communities. The Government talks about progress and the changing nature of the Post Office yet they are crippling the ability of the Post Office to be able to change.

“While the Government and David Cameron’s Conservatives have failed to see what a vital role that Post Offices play in our communities, the Liberal Democrats know the fundamental role that the Post Office plays. That is why the Liberal Democrats have continued to raise the issue in parliament, and have developed a policy that would see the Post Office go on in strength. It would provide £2 billion pounds for investment in the network, enabling new branches to be opened and saving others from closure.”
