Christmas Card Competition

30.11.06

Local MP Edward Davey was delighted to announce that the overall winner of his 2006 Christmas Card Competition is Sophie Goodwin, aged 10, who attends St. Matthew’s C of E Primary School. Sophie’s design will be the design for Edward’s official Christmas card, which will be sent to over a thousand people, around the country.  Sophie, along with her parents, will also have tea with Edward Davey at the House of Commons.

Edward Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, launched his 7th Christmas card Competition in July, with the theme of Christmas in Kingston and Surbiton. For the first time Edward extended the entries to youth groups and clubs in the constituency, who in their droves took up the challenge.  The competition was spilt into three age groups.  Each age group had a first, second and third prize, along with highly commended certificates to given to entries that had shown talent and hard work. Edward will be presenting the prizes to all those that won a prize in their age category at 2pm on December 9th at Café Chaud on Platform 1 at Surbiton Station.

Edward Davey MP said,

“I was delighted that as many as 500 young people in the constituency entered the competition and I’m always amazed at how talented they are.  The amount of effort that went into each entry made choosing the winners a real challenge.  I’d find it far too difficult to choose myself, so I always ask someone else to do it for me!

“I was very pleased that this year’s theme of “Christmas in Kingston and Surbiton” inspired so many children to pick local landmarks for their artwork – from Tolworth Roundabout to Kingston Bridge.

“I’d like to thank all those that entered and I look forward to presenting the prizes to the winners on Saturday 9th December.”
