POST OFFICE MANAGER 4 TOLWORTH BROADWAY
26.10.07
A
new campaign has been launched by Kingston and Surbiton’s Liberal
Democrat MP, Edward Davey, working with Tolworth’s Liberal Democrat
councillors, to assist the Post Office in their search for someone to
take on and run a post office on Tolworth Broadway.

In an unusual move, the local MP has stepped in to help the Post Office
advertise this business opportunity, after a number of failed attempts
by the Post Office to appoint a subpostmaster or subpostmistress.
Edward Davey is urging anyone who is interested in running a post
office on Tolworth Broadway, to contact the Post Office as soon as
possible, and is providing details of how to do this. Edward
Davey said:
“I’ve been pushing the Post Office for months now to hurry up and find
someone to run a post office on Tolworth Broadway. Since the last
office shut unexpectedly, I know what an inconvenience it has been for
many local people, and I had been told we would have the post office
re-opened by now.
“From my meetings with senior managers at the Post Office, I know how
hard they have been working on this. Indeed, they have been close to
appointing a new post office manager on two occasions, but both times
it has fallen through.
“So while I’m extremely disappointed that the Post Office haven’t found
someone after all this time, I think the best thing I can do is to help
them in their hunt for suitable premises alongside a suitable
subpostmaster or subpostmistress. Advertising business opportunities
may not be the usual job of a MP, but the local community needs this
service, so I’m happy to help the Post Office if that’s what will solve
this. We need an appropriate person, willing to find and invest in the
right premises.
Tolworth and Hook Rise Liberal Democrat Councillor, Vicki Harris,
added:
“What’s so frustrating is that this could be a sustainable Post Office
– not a post office facing closure. Indeed, senior managers have
assured us they want to keep this office open. With a post office on
the Broadway offering a long term, attractive business for someone,
we’re convinced there must be a suitable candidate out there.
“Anyone interested can visit the Post Office’s special website or
‘phone their dedicated contact to find out more about this opportunity,
and find out how to apply.”
