"Police
must come down hard on lawbreakers" - Edward Davey
Local
MP to call for crack down at meetings with senior police
officers
Home
Secretary asked to guarantee that future illegal raves
will not be permitted in the Borough
Lib Dem MP, Edward Davey
will be attending high level meetings this week at New
Scotland Yard and the British Transport Police HQ, in the
wake of the recent illegal rave at Tolworth and recent
'steaming' incidents on the Chessington South Branch line
when gangs robbed passengers. The meetings were called
previously to follow up on his wider police campaign, but
will raise all the latest developments with London's most
senior police.
Commenting prior to his meetings, Mr Davey said,
" People
should not be able to flout the law and get away with it.
That's why the illegal rave party at Tolworth angered me
so much.
"It is appalling that hundreds of residents endured
a weekend of noise violation and disruption.
"The organisers must be found and prosecuted. The
current investigation by detectives to identify and
charge these criminals is key."
Edward added,
"There is
another key lesson here. The police need better
information gathering, so they can prepare to defend our
community, in advance. This was a carefully organised
criminal act, by people who, allegedly, were involved
with anarchist riots in the City.
"So I am meeting experts at New Scotland Yard on
"ePolicing" - using the InterNet for proactive
policing. For the police's own credibility, they need
hi-tech tools to defeat hi-tech criminals. And I will be
asking the Home Secretary and Mayor of London to back the
police on this. We cannot let anarchy rule.."
