Massive response to "Save our Fairfield" campaign

Ed Davey has welcomed the massive response to the "Save our Fairfield" campaign as he handed in his petition with over 700 signatures opposing the Tory Council's plans to pave over part of the Fairfield.
"There has been an overwhelming response from local residents opposed to these plans. The first most local people had heard of the idea was when we told them.
"I want to pay tribute to all those residents in the roads around the Fairfield who got together and collected hundreds of signatures on a separate petition, standing out in the cold and wet around the Fairfield to collect signatures. That shows just how strongly people feel.
"We cannot afford to lose our precious green spaces in Kingston. All together there are petitions with around 1500 signatures. The Tory run Council must listen to local people and drop this proposal"
Full details of the petition and background information can be found on the Kingston Liberal Democrats website. The petition read:
I oppose Kingston Council's plans to pave over part of the Fairfield in order to move the Monday Market onto the Fairfield.
