Health campaign hots up

NHS Kingston is now consulting on a radical shake-up of local health services aiming to provide:

  • Longer opening hours, with new “walk in clinics” at some GP practices
  • Fewer visits to hospital and shorter waits, with several appointments in one visit
  • Improved quality of healthcare by better professional integration
  • More health services, closer to home, so outpatients and some diagnostic tests are in the community

In my local health surveys, a key demand was faster, more convenient and high quality healthcare. These latest ideas could be what we’ve campaigned for.

Have Your Say - Now!

So, I am now urging residents to “have your say” in the NHS consultation this Autumn. Don’t be put off by NHS jargon such as ‘polysystems’. As someone who has criticised the local NHS in the past, I think this time things may be different.

NHS bosses had guaranteed that whilst some details are set in stone by Government requirements, most will be shaped by what local people say. But time is tight.

New health facilities

There are linked plans for new facilities where the consultation shows they are needed. Extra GPs, in a new GP-led health centre in Chessington, have already been agreed due to national demands. Other facilities may be built or upgraded in Kingston and New Malden.

A new Surbiton Hospital?

Our top prize will be getting Surbiton Hospital rebuilt. A modern building there, with better health services is a long cherished dream.
