1,830 local pensioners miss out on cold weather payments!
Local Liberal Democrat MP, Edward Davey is outraged that Labour has failed 1,830 local pensioners who are missing out on Cold Weather Payments due to making a complicated tax system. Edward Davey MP is hoping local pensioners who believe they could qualify for Cold Weather Payments to contact him.
According to analysis of Government figures by the Liberal Democrats up to 1.7m pensioners will miss out on Cold Weather Payments triggered by the recent weather worth an estimated £42.5m.
Cold Weather Payments of £25 a week are paid to people on low incomes who receive a qualifying benefit, such as Pension Credit, which goes unclaimed by 1,830 local pensioners.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Edward Davey said,
"It is a scandal that pensioners on the breadline are missing out on these payments. Labour has failed local pensioners by creating a complicated system that makes it difficult for them to get the help they desperately need.
“Fuel prices are at an all time high, making Cold Weather Payments vital to pensioners struggling to make ends meet.
"Local pensioners could be missing £75 over the last few weeks. We've all heard the horror stories about pensioners having to limit their heating, cold weather payments could really help.
