We need to do more to tackle bullying

Edward Davey MP has added his support to Anti-Bullying Week, which is taking place from 19-23 November 2012.

Commenting, Local Lib Dem MP Edward said:

“People come across bullying at work, school and even at home. It often begins in schools and can do long-lasting damage to children’s self-esteem.

“We owe it to our children to do more to tackle bullying and to give victims the confidence they need to get the most out of school.

“I am pleased the Coalition Government has done the right thing by helping teachers in Kingston and Surbiton prevent and tackle bad behaviour.

“We’re also taking steps to deal with the growing problem of bullying online. The Cyber Mentors programme gives vital online support to victims who suffer bullying online which is often anonymous and outside of the view of parents.

“Rules and legislation can only take us so far: we need to act collectively as a society to address bullying.”
